Necessary steps to do if the Joy-Con controller is stuck

There are three possibilities for the Joy-Con controller to be stuck with, first is to Nintendo Switch console, then to the Joy-Con strap, and to the Joy-Con grip or Joy-Con charging grip. If your Joy-Con controller has any of these situations, find out the solution based on the circumstances of your issue to know what to do if the Joy-Con Controller is stuck.

If you can’t detach the Joy-Con controller from the Nintendo Switch console

If the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller is stuck to the Nintendo Switch console and you can’t separate it, make sure that you are following the instruction correctly when attaching it to the Nintendo Switch console. Below are the correct directions to connect the Joy-Con Controller to the Nintendo Switch console:

  • Before attaching the Joy-Con controller, make sure that you have both controllers correctly oriented.
    Make sure that the Nintendo Switch LCD screen is facing you after that align the Joy-Con with the “-“ symbol on with the top left corner of the console, the Joy-Con with the “+” symbol in the upper-right corner of the console.
  • Attach both Joy-Con controllers to the Nintendo Switch console
    You can use the rail on the side of the Switch console, then slide both Joy-Con controllers from top to bottom until you hear a click.

If you attach the Joy-Con controllers correctly, there should be no problem when detaching them from the console. You should easily separate both left and right Joy-Con controllers quickly by pressing the release button on the back of the Joy-Con controllers while sliding both controllers from bottom to top. If you can’t detach both Joy-Con controllers from the console after disconnecting them correctly, you need to repair both the Joy-Con controllers and also the Switch console.

If the Joy-Con controller is stuck to the Joy-Con strap

You can use the Joy-Con controllers for multiplayer gaming by attaching each controller to the Joy-Con strap. If you have a problem when detaching the Joy-Con controllers from the Joy-Con strap, there must be something wrong with it. Let’s find out what is happening to the Joy-Con controllers and the Joy-Con straps to see what to do if the Joy-Con Controller is stuck. When attaching the controllers to the Strap, make sure that the position of the Joy-Con controllers and the Joy-Con straps are aligned by placing the “- “symbol on the Controller align to the “- “symbol on the Strap. Do the same thing to the Controller with the “+” symbol; it should be aligned with the Strap with the “+” symbol. If you are sure they are all aligned correctly, then you can continue to attach them. Then, follow the steps below to detach them:

  • Check to see that the slide lock at the bottom of the Joy-Con strap is in the unlock position.
  • Slide the Joy-Con controller downward carefully without pressing the release button on the back of the controller.

  • First, locate the slide lock at the bottom of the Joy-Con strap and make sure that it is in the “unlock” position.
  • Slide the Joy-Con controller downward firmly

If you can’t detach the Joy-Con controller of the Joy-Con grip

Just like attaching the Joy-Con controller to the Nintendo Switch console and the straps, attaching the controllers to the Joy-Con grip or charging grip also needs to follow the correct instruction to avoid the unexpected problem when detaching them. Make sure that you are attaching the Joy-Con controller with the same way as the following guidelines:

Ensure that the Joy-Con controllers are in the correct orientation.
If you want to connect the Joy-Con controller to the grip or charging grip, make sure that you are holding the grip with the Nintendo logo on the grip is facing you. Then ensure that the symbols of the Joy-Con controllers are aligned with the same symbol on the grip.

Attach both Joy-Con controllers to the grip using the rail on the side of the grip, then slide the Joy-Con controller downward.
If you connect the Joy-Con controller based on the correct instruction above, you can now detach them easily by pressing the release button at the back of the Joy-Con while sliding it from the bottom to the top.
